Print created by retired professor Joseph Scheer adorns new United States Postal Service stamp

A print of a Luna Moth created by Joseph Scheer ’84, retired professor of printmaking in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, is featured on a new stamp the United State Postal Service (USPS) will roll out in 2025.

The “Luna Moth” stamp was designed by Derry Noyes, stamp art director and stamp designer for the USPS, using a digital print of a Luna Moth which Scheer produced in 2001. Scheer created the image by making digital scans of the moth from a variety of angles and using composites of the scanned images to create a final print.
